Sunday has been named after the sun, as the name of the first day of the week. Early Romans, considered Saturday as the first day of the week. But, as the worshipping of the sun increased, the sun’s day advanced from the position of the second day to the first day. The name comes from the Latin dies solis, meaning “sun’s day”, the name of the pagan Roman holiday. It is also called Dominica, the day of God. In India, Sunday is considered as the national holiday. Almost all schools and offices are closed on this day. For Christian, it is a day of worship.
