In the 9th century, a Persian doctor published one of the first written accounts of measles disease. In 1912, measles became notified disease. After that measles underwent a sea change in 1963 with the advent of the measles vaccine. Before the vaccine, measles affected almost all the population at some point in their lives. Firstly they gave only one dose, but the children were not protected with one dose, so they started to gave them the second dose also for children between 5 to 19 years of age.
A Scottish Physician demonstrated that measles was caused by an infectious agent and was present in the blood of the patients. In 1954, the virus that causes measles was isolated in Boston by John Franklin Enders and Thomas C. Peebles. It’s symptoms including fever, running nose, cough, and inflamed eye. Measles is an airborne disease which spreads easily through a cough and sneezing of those infected. Antibiotics, vitamin A supplementation is given to the patient and it is a curable disease.
